A Deep Dive Into Decorative Window Treatments

A crowning glory to any room can be the addition of window treatments. The endless options of shades and draperies make window treatments a wonderful custom addition where you can choose colors, patterns and textures that reflect your personal style.

Ultimately, window treatments serve two purposes: utilitarian, which acts to block light or provide privacy, and decorative, to bring in the beauty and style aspect. Today we want to talk about our favorite and most requested types of window treatments which are decorative, specifically fabric window treatments.

Fabric side panels are our most popular. With this type of window treatment we will guide you on fabric selection as well as the rods, rings and style of drapery. The panels can be working so they’re wide enough to move across and cover the entire window, or they can be stationary where they simply fall elegantly along the sides of the window. Either way, it adds softness to the room while also adding color and sound absorption. This treatment is classic and timeless which is why it is a tried and true option and our number one requested.

Next up is faux Roman shades. These are stationary valances made to look like a Roman shade but which are not operable. The elegant, layered draping at the top brings a softness that’s excellent for most windows, or where there might not be enough room on the sides to do panel treatments. It is also a great way to potentially make a window appear to be taller than it is, which may also help make the room feel larger.

Finally, we have a cornice window treatment which is a hard window treatment that is installed at the top of a window. Not only do these look beautiful, but they also conceal any unsightly hardware or mechanisms. These boards can be custom designed in specific shapes and upholstered in a fabric to compliment the design and colors of the room. You can choose to have just the cornice on your window or add drapes under the cornice for some additional flare and movement.
